After years of working as a local guide for renowned international birding companies such as Birdtour Asia and Birdquest, Summer transformed her deep passion for birding into a full-time career. In 2014, she founded her own birding company and ground agency, specializing in birding tours across Sichuan, Qinghai, Tibet, and Eastern China.
Her extensive work with prominent international organizations has equipped her with a wealth of experience in both birdlife and the tourism industry. Thanks to a strong network of local birders and guides, Summer stays consistently updated on the latest birding information and the current status of rare species.
Summer has also dedicated herself to mastering bird vocalizations—recording sounds and undergoing extensive listening training—making her highly skilled at identifying birds by their songs and calls. An avid photographer, she has personally taken all the images featured on this website, with many also shared on eBird.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Summer began leading tours for Chinese birders within China. Following the pandemic, she expanded her scope internationally and founded 青鸟自然旅行 China Nature Tours, offering birding experiences for Chinese birders both at home and abroad.

Summer has been guiding in China for more than a decade, initially in Sichuan before branching out to cover all corners, bit specialising in Sichuan, Qinghai, Tibet, and Eastern China, honing her birding skills to become a knowledge and well respected tour leader, with an eye for detail to make sure every aspect of a tour runs smoothly.
With a close connection to the Chinese birding network, she is always up-to-date on the latest birding news, and happy to tailor tours to best suit your requirements. Summer is an accomplished photographer and a keen sound-recordist which has helped her develop a keen ear for bird sounds, even for the multitude of Phylloscopus warblers. On top of the birds, she has a nose for culinary delights, making any China tour an experience beyond the birds and the scenery!
Frank Lambert
Frank Lambert presently lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Like most UK bird guides, he started his birding in a young age, and first ventured abroad on a birding trip at age 16. Two days after his 19th birthday, he set out with friends on an epic 8-month overland birding trip from London to the Indian subcontinent via Afghanistan and Iran, thus cementing his unwavering passion for global birding. Since then, Frank has birded most parts of the planet, and has been based in Asia for many years. Birding became his work as well as his hobby, and in 1987 he obtained a PhD from the University of Aberdeen after a 4-year study of fruit-eating birds in Malaysian rain forest. Later he studied birds in logged forests at Danum Valley, Borneo. Frank first worked casually as a bird guide in Asia in the early 1990s, before devoting many years to working primarily for conservation NGOs, mostly in Asia. Whilst based in Asia, Frank has managed to bird widely in the region, as well as further afield. After a period living in South America, Frank eventually returned to live in Malaysia in 2009, and since then has been leading tours to many different countries in the region, including various parts of China. Frank has written more than fifty papers on birds, and is the author of the Pica Press book Pittas, Broadbills and Asities, He has found and described three new birds to science in Asia (two rails and an owl), and co-discovered a new tyrant from Peru. Apart from watching birds, Frank’s main passion is to capture their vocalisations, and he has made sound recordings of more than 3,600 species of bird, the majority of which have been unloaded to the Xeno-canto website.
Kexin Peng
Kexin’s passion for birds took flight in 2019 during her college years, sparking a deep fascination with observing them in their natural habitats. Since 2021, she has actively participated in biodiversity surveys across Sichuan and the Tibetan Plateau, gaining strong familiarity with the mountain birds of Southwest China.
In 2025 and 2026, she received further field training from Summer during birding tours in Sichuan, Qinghai, Yunnan, East China and Hainan Island, deepening her skills in identification, guiding, and field observation.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine and a Master’s in Avian Ecology, Kexin brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and practical field experience. Her background offers valuable insights into species identification, animal behavior, and ecosystem dynamics. She believes in observing nature with both a keen eye and an open heart—fostering genuine connections with the wild.
Since beginning to guide international birding tours, Kexin has earned consistently positive feedback from participants. Known for her warm, energetic, and approachable personality, she brings enthusiasm to every day in the field. Guests value not only her excellent bird identification skills but also her patience, attentiveness, and genuine enjoyment of sharing memorable birding experiences. Her lively guiding style and infectious enthusiasm have made her a favourite among many returning guests.
Eager to share her love of birds with others, Kexin combines scientific knowledge with warmth, enthusiasm, and a genuine sense of fun. Whether celebrating a long-awaited target species or helping beginners improve their birding skills, she strives to make every tour both rewarding and enjoyable, leaving guests with lasting memories of China’s remarkable birdlife.
Wenbin Wang
As Summer’s younger brother by five years, Wenbin shares her talent and passion for birding. Gifted with sharp eyes and strong field instincts, he quickly demonstrated his potential in the field. After completing a year-long bird guide training program and co-leading tours across China with Summer, Wenbin began leading Chinese birding groups independently in 2023.
His skillful guiding, keen ability to locate target species, thoughtful client care, and smooth tour management have earned him high praise from Chinese birders. In 2024, he expanded his work to guiding international birding groups, marking an exciting new chapter in his growing career.
Although his spoken English is limited, Wenbin communicates effectively with foreign clients using an offline digital translator—a method that works even without phone signal. He can also quickly reference all bird names in English using the About Birds app. For those seeking a budget-friendly tour without compromising quality, Wenbin is an excellent choice.
Kitty Zhang (Xuelian Zhang)
Kitty began birding in 2006 during her college years while majoring in wildlife conservation. After spending several years conducting wildlife surveys across Yunnan and the Tibetan Plateau, she gained extensive field experience with the region’s birds, plants, and mammals.
Driven by a deep passion for birds, Kitty made the decision to pursue bird guiding as a career. In 2023, she dedicated an entire year to birding across China and recorded nearly 1,000 species within the country—a remarkable personal milestone.
In May–June 2024, she co-led a Sichuan birding tour alongside Summer, further honing her guiding skills and regional expertise.
